Abandoned church: St. Helena, South Carolina

This shot came from an abandoned church in St. Helena, South Carolina. The story of how this shot came to be is kinda funny. My best friend Renee and I were hanging out one night researching haunted places in the area. She had come upon some info about a 'light' that would pass under your car if you were sitting in the right place along this long 2 lane road. We took off one night without clear directions trying to find this specific location.
The story went that a bus of some sort was coming down this ame road many years ago when the driver lost control, and the bus apparently went into a ditch. The driver over corrected and the bus overturned, killing the people inside. I dont know the specifics of the passengers. I just hope that it wasn't a busload of children.
Anyway, we set out to find this spot. We never found it. So, the next day, we took out looking for it again during the day, so we'd know exactly where to go that night in order to see if this 'light' was real.
We drove out of town, and turned down this 2 lane. We kept going for what seemed like 20 minutes and came to this old abandoned church sitting on this long curve, We stopped in.
This place was awesome! There was no roof, windows, doors...nothing! Just a shell of a building. The entire structire was made from oyster shell that had been stuck together with something that looked alot like concrete. It was just amazing. I later found out online that this church had been used in a shot or 2 for the movie "St. Elmo's Fire".....

Out on the right side of the building was a small cemetary. It had wrought iron fencing in some places. Blocks in others. And this big mausoleum. That thing was creepy. The doors were gone, and you know what that meant. We 'had' to have a look inside.
There were these empty looking catacombs.....Spooky as hell these things...so I didn't hang around there much at all. I went to the truck, got my camera and started shooting.
I went all over this place. Front, back, back corner, inner back corner....you name it. And the shots were great in color. When I went out to the edge of the fence, I saw this older couple doing the same thing. Shooting this old church.....so, I started shooting some more.
I got to the corner of the property. Caught the side of the church in the shot while shooting through the wrought iron fence. Part of the fence had been damaged, and that's why I got it in this one. Also, the edge of the palmetto looks great too.
This was probably one of the last shots I took there. In color, it's a great shot. But, when I got it into edit, I took the color out, and that's when this shot took on a life of its own.
Oh, and for the record, we never saw that light although we went back to the exact spot we were supposed to be at. Maybe next time.
